This delicious bread is the perfect accompaniment to any meal—whether it's seafood, tapas, or as an addition to a buffet table. The braid is easy to make and makes it the star of the table.
Here's how:
-
1
Dissolve the yeast in cold water. Add the remaining ingredients, except for the salt, and knead the dough in a stand mixer until it is smooth and elastic and pulls away from the sides of the bowl, about 7 minutes. Add the salt and knead for another 3 minutes. Double the time if you’re kneading by hand.
-
2
Divide the dough into three equal parts. Then divide and roll each of these three pieces into three “sausages” of equal thickness and braid them together into a single braid. Place the braids on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover them, and let them rise for about 60–90 minutes or until they double in size. Preheat the oven to 220 °C.
-
3
Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with a few black poppy seeds. Bake in the middle of the oven for about 25–30 minutes.
