About KronJäst

Yeast production is not a manufacturing process in the traditional sense, but rather a cultivation process. Our role in that process is to provide the yeast cells with exactly the conditions that promote healthy growth, but above all to ensure that the yeast develops the properties required for baking.

About KronJäst

Fresh and natural yeast, produced near you

Jästbolaget was founded in 1893, and yeast has been produced in Sollentuna ever since, though the facility has undergone extensive changes. The key step in yeast production is the fermentation process itself, a biotechnological process in which the yeast is cultivated in large fermentation tanks. Yeast production is a sophisticated biochemical process. With extensive experience and skilled employees, Jästbolaget conducts extensive research and development to create new products and produce high-quality yeast.

Compared to most other industrial operations, we are fortunate from an environmental standpoint. Our product is natural and harmless to the environment, both during cultivation and use. The yeast company has an ambitious plan for its environmental efforts and has about fifteen projects underway simultaneously. In recent years, the company has, among other things, reviewed all transportation and packaging and increased source separation. Most recently, a major step forward was taken regarding the carbon footprint. The heating boiler, which was previously fueled by fossil oil, has been retrofitted and now runs on bio-oil instead. This is one of the major milestones in our environmental efforts; it means that the carbon footprint of our heat production has been reduced by 96 %.
