Indian sesame bread
30 min
1 hour
A delicious naan that can be pan-fried if you prefer. This bread is a staple of Indian cuisine and is traditionally baked in a tandoor. Sometimes naan is made with garlic, in which case it’s called garlic naan. Naan is often used to scoop up food in much the same way as you would use your fingers or a spoon.
Here's how:
-
1
Dissolve the yeast in the water, then add the remaining ingredients.
-
2
Knead into a soft, smooth dough in a mixer for 6 minutes, or by hand for 12 minutes.
-
3
Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rise for about 30 minutes.
-
4
Divide the dough into eight pieces
-
5
Set the oven to the broil setting at 250 °C.
-
6
Roll the pieces into balls and let them rest, covered with a kitchen towel, for about 10 minutes.
-
7
Roll out the buns to a thickness of 4 mm and pull one end so that they take on a slightly teardrop shape.
-
8
Brush the bread with a little water and sprinkle some sesame seeds on top.
-
9
Place the bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake on the bottom rack of the oven until they are nicely browned; turn the bread over and bake on the other side.
