A real little treat that resembles a doughnut, but with a delightful tang from the sourdough. The pieces are deep-fried and rolled in orange and cinnamon sugar!

Pour the sourdough starter into a bowl and add the eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is smooth.

Pipe or spoon the batter onto parchment paper in portions about the size of a five-krona coin. Place in the freezer for about 60 minutes or until the batter has hardened.

Mix granulated sugar, cinnamon, and the grated zest of a washed orange, and place the mixture in a bowl.

Pour about 5 dl of canola oil into a saucepan that holds about 1 L. Heat the oil to about 170 °C.

      Note!

      • Keep an eye on the temperature with a thermometer—the oil heats up quickly!
      • Always keep a pot lid nearby so you can quickly put the lid on if needed!

Take about 4 pieces out of the freezer and deep-fry them until golden brown on both sides. Remove them and let them drain on paper towels, then toss them in the orange and cinnamon sugar. Then take 4 more pieces out of the freezer and repeat.

If you want, you can freeze the pre-fried treats and just take them out and let them thaw when you're in the mood for a snack.
