A deliciously sweet cake that can be served as is or with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream. This recipe makes enough for about 3 round pans or loaf pans. Here’s a great tip: bake one cake, and perhaps freeze the others—apple and all—before the second rise. Then, simply take them out, let them thaw, and let them rise the next time you want to serve something fresh out of the oven! A convenient baking solution for those who love fresh-baked goods but don’t always have time to bake.

    Here's how:

    • 1

Rub the wheat flour and butter together until the mixture resembles crumbs.

    • 2

Whisk the yeast into the cold milk.

    • 3

Add the milk mixture, eggs, and sugar to the crumbly mixture and knead into a dough. Do not overwork the dough.

    • 4

Let it rise for 1 hour. Then roll out the dough into round or oblong shapes.

    • 5

Mix the ingredients for the filling, then pipe or spread the filling about 1 cm from the edge. Thinly slice the apples and arrange them on top of the filling.

    • 6

Let the dough rise in a cool place for 1 hour.

    • 7

Sprinkle with extra cinnamon sugar. Preheat the oven to 220 °C and bake for about 15–20 minutes; lower the oven temperature if the cake starts to brown too much.

    • Feel free to serve it with some delicious vanilla custard or vanilla ice cream!
