Super-Easy French Bread

A light French loaf with olive oil.

Here's how:

Crumble the yeast into a bowl and dissolve it in water and oil.

Add salt and flour. Knead the dough until smooth (until it pulls away from the sides).

Let rise, covered, for 30 minutes.

Knead well and shape into 2 loaves (or baguettes, rolls, hot dog buns, or hamburger buns)

Let rise, covered, for 40 minutes.

Bake for about 30 minutes at 200°C (loaves) or 10–15 minutes at 250°C (smaller rolls).
Tip!
- A really great basic recipe that can be varied in endless ways: replace the all-purpose flour with rye flour, or replace half of the flour with bran or whole wheat flour. Add chopped nuts or seeds to the dough, or brush the top with oil and sprinkle seeds or spices over it before baking…

- 90 g (about 1 dl) olive oil
- 500 g (about 5 dl) lukewarm water
- 9 g (about 1.5 tsp) salt
- 840 g (about 14 dl) all-purpose flour
